Whenever you upgrade LightBurn, it is strongly recommended best practice to back up your configurations. To make this seamless, LightBurn includes a feature called Export Bundle.
Following a recent notice from the Thunder Laser Tech Team, we advise all users to manually export their settings bundle before proceeding with any software updates. This ensures your custom machine configurations, device profiles, cut libraries, and art libraries are completely safe if an update encounters an error.
Before updating your software, follow these quick steps to safeguard your settings:
Open LightBurn.
Navigate to the top menu bar and select File > Export Bundle.
Choose a secure save location (such as a dedicated backup folder, cloud drive, or external USB drive).
Name the file clearly (e.g., LightBurn_Backup_[Current Date]) and click Export.
💡 Tip: Keep this file safe! It contains your entire laser environment setup.
If you install the update and find that your settings, libraries, or device profiles did not migrate automatically, you can restore them instantly:
Open the updated version of LightBurn.
Go to File > Import Bundle.
Select the backup file you saved prior to the upgrade.
Restart LightBurn to apply all restored settings.
While LightBurn typically migrates your preferences automatically, major updates or unexpected system glitches can occasionally overwrite local preference files. Taking 30 seconds to export a bundle completely eliminates the risk of losing your fine-tuned laser settings.
Yes! The bundle file is a great way to replicate your exact Thunder Laser setup onto a secondary or replacement design computer.
