How to Export Machine Settings (.lbset)

This Knowledge Base article explains how to export a machine configuration file (.lbset) from LightBurn for technical support or backup purposes.

Overview

The Machine Settings window allows access to the firmware configuration stored on the laser controller. Exporting these settings into a file is a standard procedure for troubleshooting and system diagnostics.

Step 1: Verify Connection

Before attempting to export settings, ensure the software is communicating with the hardware:

  • Confirm the laser is powered on and connected to the computer

  • Check the Laser window (typically at the bottom right) to ensure the status is not "Disconnected"

  • Verify that the correct machine profile is selected in the Devices dropdown

Step 2: Open Machine Settings

  1. Navigate to the top menu bar.

  2. Select Laser Tools and click on Machine Settings

    • Note: In some versions or configurations, this may also be found under the Edit menu.

  3. If this is the first time accessing this menu, a warning prompt may appear; proceed past the warning to view the configuration fields

Step 3: Read and Save the Configuration

To ensure the file contains the most accurate data, follow these steps:

  1. Read Settings (Best Practice): Click the Read button to pull the current values directly from the laser controller.

  2. Save to File: Click the Save to File button located at the bottom of the window.

  3. Naming: Name the file clearly (e.g., Bolt_Machine_Config_Date.lbset) so it is easily identifiable

  4. Storage: Save the file to an accessible location, such as your Desktop

⚠️ Warning: Do not modify any numerical values or toggle switches within this window unless specifically instructed to do so. Changes here directly affect how the machine operates.

Step 4: Forward the File

Once the .lbset file is saved to your computer, attach it to your support ticket for review.
